With reference to your letters of the 30th December

and 5th Ultimo, I have the honour to report that William

Bidgood has signed an Agreement for a further term of three

years service as Foreman Mason on the Praya Reclamation Works

in Hong Kong but has addressed to us at the same time a let-

ter of which I enclose a copy as to the scale of pay and al-

lowances to which he considers himself entitled and with res-

pect to the provision of passages for his wife and two child-

ren.

As regards the latter application I beg to refer to

the second paragraph of the Governor's despatch to the Secre-

tary of State No 245 of the 21st August 1888 a copy of which

was communicated to us in your letter of the 5th October in

the same year, but I would point out that this is a re-engagement presumably on the ground of previous good ser-

vice and that therefore Bidgood's application appears deserv-

ing of consideration.

I have the honour to be,

case of

Sir,

The Under Secretary of State.

Your Obedient Servant,
